Rapunzel’s Further Ado Foundation

Rapunzel’s Further Ado Foundation exists to provide the residents of rural Nelson County with ongoing access to the arts and a community space in which to enjoy them. Rapunzel’s has reclaimed the historic 100-year-old Packing Shed in Lovingston, Virginia and converted it into a performing arts venue, coffee shop, used bookstore, recording studio, and social gathering space.

Central Virginia abounds with a wealth of artistic talent –ranging from solo singer-songwriters to full bands, from community theater productions and dance troupes, authors, comics, and so much more– yet when we started our coffee shop in 2001 there were very few places for these artists to perform and share their passions. Rapunzel’s Further Ado Foundation was created in response to the growing need for a space for these artists, and the need for a welcoming communal space, so that the visual and performing arts can be available to all members of our community.

The Foundation has two primary goals: to provide these local artists with performance opportunities, and to connect them with our audience. We also seek to bring in touring artists from outside the Central Virginia area so that our fellow Nelson County residents and neighbors nearby will have access to the widest possible variety of music, dance, theater, comedy, poetry, and art.

Further Ado recognizes the need for new and up-and-coming artists to have a place to present their work; therefore, a large number of the artists we support are in the early stages of their professional careers. Our Foundation is pleased to have hosted the debut or early performances of several artists who are now performing with nationally-recognized acts, several who have been signed with major record labels, and two who have received Grammy nominations.

The Further Ado Foundation also works with other non-profit organizations and venues in the Central Virginia area to help create and build an ever expanding network of resources and opportunities for the arts.

The Further Ado Foundation is a federal tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. All charitable donations and in-kind donations are tax-deductible under the full extent of the Code. All individual donor information is kept confidential and will be used for internal purposes only.
