Our dear friends Gene and Gayla Mills return to Rapunzel’s with the Firefly Kent Ippolito and special guest Bill Evans on Saturday, April 18th for two sweet sets.
Gene and Gayla embody the folk tradition, weaving together strands of bluegrass, country, and folk with original songs of love, contemplation, and protest--many based on real events and people from Virginia. Multi-instrumentalist Kent Ippolito has performed and recorded with numerous artists since the 1980s and plays dobro and clawhammer banjo with the Fireflies. The Fireflies have been having a damned good time playing together and would love to share that musical feeling with you.
Renowned banjo player Bill Evans will join us for part of each set. Bill and Gene played together in their early days, before Bill ventured off to become one of the best banjo players in the world.
This special night at Rapunzel’s will include a retrospective of Gene’s originals that we’ve been playing on the Rapunzel’s stage for over two decades.
